Hannah Brontë (QLD)

Relax into this sonic encounter braiding political, poetic and power laden rap. Tresse // Passing is a personal narrative exploring culture down to the root. The Blak Matriarchy is alive and well.

Is this for me? A raw, multi-sensory environment. Contains some coarse language.

Year 2017
Venue Perth Town Hall

Hannah Brontë is interested in the expected and changing roles of women today and her explorations of this are deeply influenced by hip-hop and female protest culture. Previous works have included deconstructed feminist banners; quoting female rappersand Bronte’s own words, as well as textiles using oestrogen camouflage to adorncharacters within her videos. Bronte also explores the history of women as warriors through shell and woven adornment using traditional fibres. The constant through-out all her work is female empowerment, and trying to walk always with the power of her female ancestors at her side.
