The next Proximity Festival is set to take place in October 2017.
As a biannual model, Proximity commences with a two week intensive Lab for eight Australian artists from 6 – 17 December 2016 in the heart of Perth city.
The shift to a biannual model will offer artists longer lead-time to develop their works in-situ with the support of national provocateurs before premiering their works in 2017.
Curated by Sarah Rowbottam and Kelli McCluskey, eight artists commissioned to make new intimate one-on-one performances for Proximity 2016-17 include Cigdem Aydemir, Mike Bianco, Hannah Bronte, Liam Colgan, Rachael Dease, Atlanta Eke, Natalie Randall and Tyrone Robinson.
Joining the Lab is Proximity’s 2016-17 Provocateur Jeff Khan. As a curator, writer and current Artistic Director of Performance Space in Sydney, Jeff has a particular interest in interdisciplinary, site-specific and socially engaged practices, and nurturing artworks that present new and interesting ideas about gender and sexuality.
The Festival venue and full program of experimental performances, talks and opening events will be announced in August 2017.
